How to use a Ledger with Phantom Wallet

Phantom works with Ledger hardware wallets: Nano S, Nano S Plus, Stax and Flex over USB in the browser extension, and Nano X, Stax and Flex over Bluetooth in the mobile app. Install the Solana, Ethereum and Bitcoin apps on the Ledger, close Ledger Live, then add the Ledger as an account in Phantom. Every transaction must then be confirmed on the device.

Quick steps

  1. Update the Ledger. Update the firmware and install or update the Solana, Ethereum and Bitcoin apps using Ledger Live.
  2. Close Ledger Live. Quit Ledger Live completely so it does not block Phantom's connection.
  3. Connect and unlock the device. Use a data USB cable for the extension, or turn on Bluetooth for the mobile app, and unlock the Ledger.
  4. Open Phantom's hardware wallet option. Choose to connect a hardware wallet from the welcome screen or from the add account menu.
  5. Pick networks and open the matching app. Choose a network in Phantom and open the corresponding app on the Ledger when asked.
  6. Select accounts. Choose the Ledger addresses to add; they appear as accounts in Phantom.
  7. Confirm every transaction on the device. Start a transaction in Phantom, check the details on the Ledger screen and approve it there.

Connecting a Ledger to Phantom keeps your private keys on the hardware device while you use Phantom's interface for sending, swapping and connecting to apps. Phantom never sees the Ledger's recovery phrase. It is the safest way to hold meaningful amounts in Phantom, and the setup is short. Details below follow Phantom's help centre as of October 2026.

Source: Phantom help centre, checked October 2026. Phantom's current list does not name the Nano X for the extension, although older guides showed it working over USB; check help.phantom.com if you plan to use a Nano X on desktop. Phantom added Ledger support to its mobile app on 1 June 2023 (Phantom blog, 2023).

Prepare the Ledger

  • Update the Ledger firmware in Ledger Live.
  • Install or update the Solana, Ethereum and Bitcoin apps on the device. The Ethereum app also covers EVM networks such as Base and Polygon.
  • Close Ledger Live before connecting or signing in Phantom. Phantom says it can block the browser connection.
  • For the extension, use a USB cable that carries data, not a charge-only cable.
  • For mobile, allow Phantom to use Bluetooth when asked and keep the Ledger unlocked during pairing.

Connect a Ledger to the browser extension

Plug in and unlock the Ledger. If Phantom is new, click the extension icon and, in the tab that opens, choose to create a new wallet and connect a hardware wallet. If you already use Phantom, open your profile avatar, choose to add an account and pick the hardware wallet option.

Phantom detects the device. Select it and continue, then choose a network and open the matching app on the Ledger when asked (for example the Solana app for Solana accounts). Repeat for each network you want, then pick the accounts to add. They appear in Phantom alongside your other accounts.

Connect a Ledger to the mobile app

On the welcome screen, open the extra options and choose to connect a hardware wallet. In an existing wallet, go to your profile avatar, Settings, account management, the add option and the hardware wallet choice. Allow Bluetooth, select your Ledger, choose the networks, open the right app on the device and select the addresses to add (Phantom help centre, 2026).

How signing works

Each time you send, swap, stake or approve something from a Ledger account, Phantom prepares the transaction and asks you to confirm it on the device. Keep the Ledger connected and unlocked, open the right app (Solana for Solana, Ethereum for EVM networks) and check the details on the Ledger screen before you approve. Phantom submits the transaction only after you confirm it on the device.

A Ledger protects your keys, not your judgement. If you approve a malicious transaction on the device, the Ledger signs it. Read Phantom's warnings and the Ledger screen every time, and never connect from a link in a DM or search ad.

Blind signing

Some transactions, especially complex Solana swaps and app interactions, need blind signing, which lets the Ledger sign data it cannot fully display. Phantom says to enable it only for the apps you use: in the Solana app's settings and, for EVM, in the Ethereum app's settings. Because you cannot read everything on the device when blind signing, rely on Phantom's transaction preview and only approve transactions you recognise. Ledger app updates can switch the setting off again.

What does not work with a Ledger

  • Phantom does not show the recovery phrase or private keys for Ledger accounts. Your backup is the 24-word phrase from the Ledger's own setup.
  • Phantom's perpetual futures (perps) feature is not available with a Ledger (Phantom help centre, 2026).
  • Bitcoin balances can look different from Ledger Live, because Ledger generates new Bitcoin addresses automatically.
  • Native SOL staking in Phantom happens in the extension; we could not confirm from Phantom's help centre whether every staking option supports Ledger accounts.

Common problems and fixes

  • Phantom does not detect the Ledger: fully close and reopen the browser, close Ledger Live, unlock the device, try a data cable, update the firmware and apps, then try again. If it still fails, remove the Ledger account from Phantom and reconnect.
  • Transactions fail after connecting: check the device is connected and unlocked, the correct app is open, Ledger Live is closed and blind signing is on for that app.
  • Transaction Expired Before Signing: you took too long to approve on the device, or the app was not open. Open the app first, then approve promptly.
  • Mobile pairing drops: if the Ledger locks during pairing, restart Phantom and repeat the steps.

For other errors see Phantom transaction failed.

The rule that matters most

Never type your Ledger's 24 words into Phantom, a website or any app. Phantom's own help article repeats this. The only time you need them is when restoring the Ledger itself, on the Ledger device. Anyone asking you to "sync" or "validate" a Ledger by entering the phrase is a scammer.

Frequently asked questions

Does Phantom support Ledger Nano X?

Yes, in the mobile app over Bluetooth. Phantom's current list for the browser extension names the Nano S, Nano S Plus, Stax and Flex, so check the help centre before using a Nano X on desktop.

Does Phantom support Trezor?

No. Phantom's help centre lists all Trezor and Tangem models as unsupported.

Why does Phantom ask me to enable blind signing?

Some Solana and EVM transactions are too complex for the Ledger to display in full. Enable blind signing only in the apps you use and only approve transactions you recognise.

Can I see my Ledger's recovery phrase in Phantom?

No. Phantom never has access to it. Your backup is the 24-word phrase you wrote down when setting up the Ledger.

Can I trade perps with a Ledger in Phantom?

No. Phantom's perps feature is not available with a Ledger.

Do I need Ledger Live open?

No. Phantom asks you to close Ledger Live because it can block the connection.
