Phantom vs Solflare: which Solana wallet should you use in 2026?
Choose Phantom if you want one app for Solana plus Bitcoin, Ethereum, Base and a few other networks, with built-in trading features. Choose Solflare if you only use Solana and want a Firefox extension, a web wallet, Keystone or Solflare Shield support and no fixed wallet swap fee. Both are self-custodial and both suit most Solana users.
Phantom and Solflare are the two best-known Solana wallets. Both are self-custodial: you hold the recovery phrase, and neither company can move your funds. Solflare has stayed a Solana specialist since 2020. Phantom has grown into a multichain trading app, adding and dropping networks several times in 2026. All facts below were checked on 25 October 2026.

Fees
Sending tokens costs only the Solana network fee in both wallets. The difference is in built-in swaps.
- Phantom charges 0.85% on most swaps, shown in the quote before you confirm (Phantom help centre, 2026). Cross-chain swaps go through providers such as LI.FI, Relay, deBridge and Garden, whose charge appears on a separate line, with a $2 minimum. PSOL liquid staking takes 4% of staking rewards plus a 0.1% exit fee.
- Solflare routes swaps through the Jupiter aggregator. CryptoSlate (October 2026) found no fixed Solflare service fee disclosed; route and service charges appear in each quote, and the 0.5% figure you may see is the default slippage setting, not a fee. Instant Unstake, which skips the normal wait, costs 0.5% to 3% depending on liquidity.
On a $1,000 swap, Phantom's fee is $8.50. Solflare's cost depends on the route, so compare the amount you will receive, not a headline percentage. Our swap cost calculator and Phantom fees guide show the full picture.
Chains: specialist or all-in-one
This is the main dividing line. Solflare does one chain. If you hold Bitcoin, ETH or tokens on Base, you need a second wallet.
Phantom covers nine networks as of 25 October 2026, but its list moves fast. It added Robinhood Chain on 23 July 2026, Arc on 16 September and BNB Chain on 1 October, and it ended support for Monad on 26 August and Sui on 24 September. Funds on dropped chains stay on-chain, but you need another wallet to reach them; see Phantom's Sui and Monad removal. Phantom does not support Arbitrum, Optimism or Avalanche and does not let you add custom networks. The current list is on Phantom supported chains.
Safety
Both wallets preview transactions and warn about known malicious sites. Phantom's previews have been powered by Blowfish, which Phantom bought in November 2024, plus a public blocklist. Phantom was audited by Least Authority (report June 2024) and runs a bug bounty on Cantina paying up to $100,000 since 1 July 2026. Solflare's public audit record is thinner: the August 2023 Consensys Diligence review covered only its MetaMask Snap code.
Phantom's history includes the 2022 "Demonic" issue, where browsers could save the recovery-phrase field to disk; Phantom says it had fixes in place by April 2022, and no exploitation was reported. In the August 2022 Solana drain of about 9,230 wallets, investigators traced the cause to Slope wallet; Phantom and Solflare users who lost funds had reused Slope-generated phrases. In April 2025 a lawsuit in New York alleged that Phantom exposed keys; Phantom calls it "entirely without merit" and we found no ruling. Details are in Phantom's security history.
For most users the bigger risk is fakes. Both brands are copied by fake extensions, apps and "support" accounts. Phantom has no phone support and never asks for your recovery phrase. Check any Phantom download with our download checker.
Features
- Hardware: Phantom supports Ledger only: Nano S, Nano S Plus, Stax and Flex by USB in the extension, and Nano X, Stax and Flex by Bluetooth on mobile. Solflare supports Ledger (USB through the web wallet, Nano X on mobile), Keystone Essential and Pro by QR code in the web wallet, and its own Shield NFC card, priced from $49 in September 2026. See using Phantom with Ledger.
- Staking: both need at least 1 SOL for a native stake. Phantom adds PSOL, a liquid staking token you can use in DeFi; Solflare adds Instant Unstake. See Phantom staking.
- Trading extras: Phantom offers Hyperliquid perps (not in the US or UK, and not with a Ledger), prediction markets and tokenized stocks in some countries. Solflare also offers perps, likewise excluding the US and UK. Leverage can wipe out a position quickly; see Phantom perps.
- Cards: Phantom Cash and its Visa card are US only and not in New York. Solflare paused its card on 28 July 2026 after its issuer Kulipa wound down; it said a replacement was expected in August 2026, but we could not confirm a launch as of October 2026. See Phantom Cash and card.
- Sign-in: Phantom lets you create a wallet with Google or Apple instead of writing down a phrase. Solflare uses a classic recovery phrase.
- Browsers: Solflare lists Firefox among its supported extension browsers (CryptoSlate, October 2026). Phantom's help centre says its Firefox extension no longer receives updates and suggests moving to Chrome.
Using both, or switching
Both wallets use the standard Solana derivation for recovery phrases, so importing the same phrase usually shows the same Solana address; if it does not, check the derivation path option during import. Solflare will not show your Bitcoin or EVM balances. If you created your Phantom wallet with Google or Apple login, there is no phrase to import until you export your keys from Phantom. Our guide to importing a wallet into Phantom covers the reverse direction.
If both extensions are installed in one browser, a dapp may open the one you did not intend. Most Solana dapps show a list of wallets; pick the right one each time.
