Phantom wallet not working: find your problem and fix it

Most Phantom problems come from one of five things: a site that cannot see the wallet, a transaction that failed or expired, too little SOL or ETH for fees, a token that is hidden or on another network, or a short Phantom outage. Match your symptom in the table below, then follow the linked fix. Your funds sit on the blockchain, not in the app, so an app problem does not by itself mean your crypto is gone.

Quick steps

  1. Match your symptom. Find what you see in the symptom table and open the linked fix page for that problem.
  2. Update and restart. Update Phantom from the official store listing only, then quit and reopen the browser or app.
  3. Check the network and address. Make sure the site, the transfer and your Phantom receive address all use the same supported network.
  4. Check a block explorer. Paste your address or transaction ID into an explorer for that network to see what really happened on-chain.
  5. Check for an outage. Look at Phantom's official X account and status trackers; if many users report the same issue, wait instead of resending.
  6. Reset only with a backup. Reset the app as a last resort, and only after confirming you have your recovery phrase or login to restore the wallet.

Before anything else: Phantom has no phone support and Phantom staff will never ask for your recovery phrase. People searching "Phantom not working" are a favourite target for fake support pages, fake phone numbers and "helpful" strangers in direct messages. Real help is at help.phantom.com; type the address yourself or use a bookmark. More on this in the Phantom support phone scam.

Five checks that fix most problems

  1. Update Phantom. Update the extension from the Chrome Web Store (extension ID bfnaelmomeimhlpmgjnjophhpkkoljpa) or the app from the App Store or Google Play. Never install an "update" from a popup or a link someone sent you. You can check a link or ID with our download checker.
  2. Restart the browser or app. Phantom's help centre suggests quitting and reopening the browser first for most connection errors (Phantom help centre, 2026).
  3. Use a supported browser. Chrome and Brave work; Edge can install the Chrome Web Store build. Phantom says Safari is not supported for the extension and Firefox no longer receives updates.
  4. Check the network. Phantom supports nine networks as of October 2026: Solana, Ethereum, Base, Polygon, Bitcoin, HyperEVM, Robinhood Chain, Arc and BNB Chain. Anything sent on another network will not show up. See Phantom supported chains.
  5. Check the blockchain, not just the app. Paste your address or transaction ID into a block explorer for that network. If the explorer shows the transaction, it happened, whatever the app says.

Is Phantom down? Known outages

Phantom has had several short service incidents. In each case Phantom said funds were safe: the problem was in Phantom's servers that show balances, prices and transaction previews, not on the blockchain.

DateWhat happenedSource
3 February 2024 and 15 August 2024Short service disruptions: delays updating token balances in February, and a temporary issue that stopped users seeing account balances properly in AugustThe Block
28 October 2024About 13:00 to 16:40 UTC, during the GRASS airdrop claims: some users saw wrong balances. Phantom posted: "We're currently experiencing an uptime incident and some services may be temporarily disrupted."The Block
13 November 2024An iOS update reset the app for a small number of users, who had to restore with their recovery phrase. Phantom released a fix.The Block, Cryptopolitan
6 April 2026Token prices and balances stopped updating for about an hour in the evening (US Eastern time). The app showed: "We are having trouble updating your token prices. Your funds are safe."The Block
12 July 2026Phantom said "some users are experiencing degraded performance with sends and swaps"; checking balances reportedly still worked.Phantom on X, Crypto Briefing

During an outage:

  • Check Phantom's official X account (@phantom) and third-party status trackers. If many people report the same thing at the same time, it is probably not your device.
  • Do not resend the same transaction again and again. Check the explorer first; a "failed" send may have gone through.
  • Do not reinstall Phantom or reset the app unless you have your recovery phrase written down. A reset wipes the wallet from the device.
  • Ignore anyone who replies to your complaint on X or Discord offering "support". They are scammers.

When a reset helps, and when it is dangerous

Phantom's help centre suggests resetting the app as a last step for stubborn connection errors and for some stuck Bitcoin transactions caused by a local cache. On mobile and extension the option sits under Settings, then Security & Privacy, then Reset App (Phantom help centre, 2026). A reset deletes the wallet from that device only. You get it back by restoring with your recovery phrase, your Google or Apple login (for email wallets), or your private keys.

Only reset if you have checked that you have those backups. If you are not sure, read how the Phantom recovery phrase works and how to recover a Phantom wallet first.

When it is not a glitch

If tokens left your wallet and you did not send them, this is not a bug and no reset will bring them back. Someone has your recovery phrase or you signed a malicious transaction. Stop using that wallet and follow what to do if your Phantom wallet was drained. Anyone who offers to "recover" stolen crypto for a fee is running a second scam.

Contacting Phantom

Phantom's help centre is at help.phantom.com. Support starts in the chat inside the Phantom app or on the help centre; if a ticket is opened, an agent follows up by email at the address you gave (Phantom help centre, 2026). Phantom says it has no support phone number and no public email address, and it offers no WhatsApp or Telegram support. Phantom support will not message you first, and nobody from Phantom needs your recovery phrase or private key to help you.

Frequently asked questions

Is my money gone if Phantom is not working?

Usually not. Your assets are recorded on the blockchain. If the app shows a wrong balance, check your address in a block explorer to see the real balance.

Does Phantom have a phone number I can call?

No. Phantom has no phone support. Help is at help.phantom.com. Any phone number that claims to be Phantom support is a scam.

Should I reinstall Phantom to fix it?

Only if you have your recovery phrase or login written down and checked. Reinstalling removes the wallet from the device until you restore it.

How do I know if Phantom is down for everyone?

Check Phantom's official X account and independent status trackers. Many simultaneous reports of the same problem point to an outage, not your device.

Why did Phantom stop working on Firefox?

Phantom's Firefox listing says it is no longer supported and will not receive updates. Use Chrome, Brave or Edge, or the mobile app, and restore with your recovery phrase.
