Solana fee and rent calculator

Solana charges 5,000 lamports per signature plus an optional priority fee, and the first time you receive a new token your wallet needs a refundable rent deposit for its token account: 0.00148844 SOL (about 0.00149 SOL) since Solana's rent cut of 11 September 2026. Enter the numbers to see how much SOL a transaction needs.

Solana's 2026 rent reduction

Solana is lowering the rent deposit in steps (SIMD-0437). Until September 2026 the rate was 6,960 lamports per byte (0.00203928 SOL per token account). It fell to 6,333 on 3 September 2026 and to 5,080 on 11 September 2026. Further steps down to 696 lamports per byte (about 0.0002 SOL per token account) were expected with a validator release around November 2026, without fixed activation dates (Chainstack docs; Solana Foundation, 2026). Change the rate field if it has moved again.

1 SOL = 1,000,000,000 lamports. Phantom usually sets the priority fee for you and shows the total before you confirm. If you see an error about rent or insufficient SOL, read fixing "not enough SOL" in Phantom.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need SOL to receive a token?

Each token you hold on Solana lives in its own token account, which needs a small refundable rent deposit. Whoever creates the account pays it; often that is the sender, sometimes it is you.

How do I get my rent back?

Close empty token accounts. Some wallets and tools offer this; you get the deposit for each closed account back.

Why are my fees higher than 0.000005 SOL?

When the network is busy, apps add priority fees so the transaction is processed sooner. Phantom shows the fee before you confirm.

How much SOL should I keep in Phantom?

Enough for several transactions and a few new token accounts. Keeping around 0.01–0.02 SOL is a common rule of thumb, but check the fee Phantom shows.
