Phantom vs Rabby: do you need one, the other or both?
Phantom is the right wallet for Solana and also handles Bitcoin and a few EVM networks. Rabby is the stronger EVM wallet: it supports far more EVM chains and custom networks, charges 0.25% on swaps instead of 0.85% and works with many more hardware wallets. Rabby cannot hold Solana or Bitcoin, so many people use both.
Phantom and Rabby are rarely direct substitutes. Phantom is the best-known Solana wallet that added other chains. Rabby, from the DeBank team, is an EVM-only wallet built for DeFi on Ethereum and its layer-2s. The real question is usually which wallet to use for your EVM activity. Facts were checked on 25 October 2026.

Chains: the deciding factor
If you hold SOL, Solana tokens or Bitcoin, Rabby cannot help: it is EVM-only. Phantom handles Solana natively and supports Bitcoin with Native SegWit and Taproot addresses; see Phantom as a Solana wallet.
On EVM the picture flips. Phantom supports seven EVM networks: Ethereum, Base, Polygon, BNB Chain, HyperEVM, Robinhood Chain and Arc. Rabby supports many more (90+ by 2025 reports), switches network automatically for each dapp and lets you add any EVM chain by hand. Phantom lists Arbitrum, Optimism, Avalanche, Unichain and Linea as unsupported. See Phantom supported chains.
Rabby can also help after Phantom's 2026 chain exits. Monad, which Phantom dropped on 26 August 2026, is an EVM chain, so importing the same recovery phrase into an EVM wallet that supports Monad usually shows the same address. Sui, dropped on 24 September 2026, is not EVM, so Rabby cannot help there. See Phantom's Sui and Monad removal.
Fees
Phantom charges 0.85% on most in-wallet swaps (Phantom help centre, 2026). Rabby charges 0.25%, included in the quote, and waives it on eligible same-chain pairs; its bridge also charges 0.25% (CryptoSlate, October 2026). On a $1,000 EVM swap that is $8.50 in Phantom against $2.50 in Rabby. If you swap often on EVM, that adds up. Both also charge for perps: Phantom's total perps fee is 0.095% per trade including Hyperliquid's share; Rabby adds a 0.04% builder fee on top of Hyperliquid's fees. See Phantom fees.
Safety
Both wallets simulate transactions and warn before you sign. Rabby's checks are known for decoding EVM approvals and permits in detail. Phantom's previews use technology from Blowfish, which it acquired in November 2024, and a public blocklist.
Openness differs. Rabby's extension code is public under the MIT licence, with recent audits by SlowMist (August 2026) and Least Authority (October 2026) published in its repository. Phantom's apps are proprietary; Least Authority audited them in 2024, and Phantom pays up to $100,000 for critical bugs through Cantina.
Rabby's main incident was the 11 October 2022 exploit of its Swap contract, which cost users who had approved it about $200,000; the fix was to revoke approvals. In August 2026 Rabby fixed an extension signature bug that only affected users with a 10-minute auto-lock setting; no exploitation was known. Phantom's record includes the 2022 "Demonic" browser issue (patched), the 2022 Slope drain (traced to Slope) and a 2025 lawsuit Phantom calls meritless. See Phantom's security history. For both wallets, fake downloads are the bigger risk; check Phantom with our download checker.
Features
- Hardware: Phantom supports Ledger only. Rabby supports Ledger, Trezor, Keystone, BitBox02 and many others. If you own a Trezor and hold EVM assets, Rabby is the option; for Solana on a hardware wallet, Phantom with Ledger is. See Phantom and Ledger.
- Sign-in: Phantom offers Google or Apple login wallets. Rabby uses a classic recovery phrase.
- Staking: Phantom offers native SOL staking and PSOL; see Phantom staking.
- Trading: both offer Hyperliquid perps. Phantom's are not available in the US or UK or with a Ledger.
Running Phantom and Rabby side by side
A common setup is Phantom for Solana and Bitcoin, and Rabby for EVM DeFi. Because Phantom also injects an Ethereum provider, a dapp may open Phantom when you meant Rabby. Most dapps show a list of wallets; pick the right one. Rabby also has a setting to make itself the default.
Keep chains straight when moving funds. Your Solana and Bitcoin addresses in Phantom use different formats from the 0x address used on EVM chains. Sending tokens to the wrong format will fail or lose funds. Our Solana address checker flags the format before you send.
A simple way to split the work: keep SOL, Solana tokens and BTC in Phantom; keep ETH and tokens on Arbitrum, Optimism and other EVM chains in Rabby; and use whichever you prefer on Ethereum, Base, Polygon and BNB Chain, which both support. If you import the same recovery phrase into both, your EVM address will usually match, so the same balance appears in each. If you would rather keep them separate, create a new wallet in one of them.
Review old token approvals when you switch EVM wallets. Approvals belong to your address, not to the app, so a risky approval you gave through Phantom stays active in Rabby, and the other way round. Rabby has a built-in page to review and revoke them.
Choose Phantom if… / Choose Rabby if…
Choose Phantom if
- Solana is your main chain.
- You want Bitcoin and Solana in the same app as some EVM assets.
- You want SOL staking or Google/Apple sign-in.
Choose Rabby if
- Your activity is on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism and other EVM chains.
- You want lower swap fees on EVM.
- You use a hardware wallet other than Ledger, or prefer open-source code.
Frequently asked questions
Can Rabby hold Solana?
No. Rabby supports only Ethereum and EVM-compatible chains. Use Phantom or another Solana wallet for SOL and Solana tokens.
Is Phantom good for Ethereum?
It works for Ethereum, Base, Polygon, BNB Chain and a few other EVM networks, but it does not support Arbitrum, Optimism or Avalanche, and its 0.85% swap fee is higher than Rabby's 0.25%.
Can I use the same recovery phrase in Phantom and Rabby?
Yes, and your EVM address will usually match. Your Solana and Bitcoin balances will not appear in Rabby.
Which supports Trezor?
Rabby supports Trezor and many other devices. Phantom supports only Ledger as of October 2026.
Can Rabby help me reach Monad funds Phantom no longer shows?
Monad is an EVM chain, so an EVM wallet that supports Monad can usually show the same address from the same recovery phrase. Check that the network is listed or can be added first.
