Phantom vs Trust Wallet: Solana specialist or all-chain mobile wallet?
Phantom suits Solana users who want strong Solana features, Ledger signing in the extension and on mobile, and extras like PSOL and perps where available. Trust Wallet suits people who hold coins on many chains, from Bitcoin and Solana to TON and Tron, and want one mobile app for all of them. Trust Wallet's Chrome extension suffered a malicious release in December 2025.
Trust Wallet is a mass-market mobile wallet owned by Binance since 2018. Phantom started as a Solana wallet in 2021 and has added a handful of other networks. Both are self-custodial and free to download. The choice mostly comes down to how many chains you need and how much you care about Solana depth. Facts were checked on 25 October 2026.

Fees
Phantom charges 0.85% on most in-wallet swaps (Phantom help centre, 2026). Trust Wallet includes its fee in the quoted rate; its own comparison page against Phantom, updated October 2026, lists 0.7% for Trust Wallet and 0.85% for Phantom. On a $1,000 swap that is roughly $7 against $8.50.
Trust Wallet says it charges nothing for staking, buying, sending or receiving, apart from network and provider costs. Phantom also charges nothing to send or receive; native SOL staking has no Phantom fee, while PSOL takes 4% of rewards and a 0.1% exit fee. Treat both companies' marketing comparisons with care and compare real quotes. See Phantom fees.
Chains
Trust Wallet's biggest advantage is breadth. If you hold TON, Tron, XRP-style assets or coins on many smaller networks, Trust Wallet can show them in one app; Phantom cannot.
Phantom covers fewer networks but goes deeper on Solana. Its list changed four times between August and October 2026: Monad out on 26 August, Arc in on 16 September, Sui out on 24 September and BNB Chain in on 1 October. It does not support Arbitrum, Optimism or Avalanche, and you cannot add custom networks. See Phantom supported chains and Phantom and BNB Chain.
Safety
Trust Wallet's most serious incident is recent. On 24 December 2025 a malicious version of its Chrome extension, v2.68, was published outside Trust Wallet's normal release process, using leaked credentials that investigators linked to the Shai-Hulud 2.0 supply-chain attack. It harvested recovery phrases until it was replaced by v2.69. Early reports put losses at about $7 million; Trust Wallet later said about $8.5 million was taken. It opened a reimbursement process, with claims reviewed case by case, and said the mobile app was not affected. Fake "fix" sites asking for recovery phrases appeared within days (BleepingComputer, December 2025; CryptoSlate, October 2026). In 2023, early extension versions were also found to create wallets with weak randomness (CVE-2023-31290).
Phantom has had no comparable compromise of its own software in our research. Its record includes the 2022 "Demonic" browser issue (patched, no exploitation reported), the August 2022 Slope drain (traced to Slope, not Phantom) and a contested 2025 lawsuit. Phantom users are heavily targeted by fake apps, fake "update" pop-ups (February 2025) and address poisoning, including through Phantom's live chat feature in February 2026. See Phantom's security history and fake Phantom scams.
The lesson from both: install only from the official store listing, keep extensions updated, and use a hardware wallet for larger balances. Both wallets support Ledger; Phantom supports it on mobile as well as in the extension. Check a Phantom download with our download checker.
On pre-sign checks, both scan transactions. Trust Wallet's Security Scanner flags risky permissions and known scam contracts. Phantom simulates transactions and warns about malicious sites and tokens, with a public blocklist.
Features

- Breadth: Trust Wallet supports staking and swaps across many more chains and has a built-in dapp browser on mobile.

- Payments: Phantom Cash and its Visa card are US only and exclude New York; see Phantom Cash.
Moving from Trust Wallet to Phantom
If you used Trust Wallet extension v2.68 in late December 2025, treat that recovery phrase as exposed. Do not import it anywhere. Create a new wallet, write down the new phrase offline and move remaining funds to it; see how to set up Phantom.
If your phrase is safe, you can import it into Phantom and see the same addresses on shared chains, though Solana addresses can differ if the wallets use different derivation paths. Coins on chains Phantom does not support stay in Trust Wallet. Our guide to importing a wallet into Phantom explains the options.
Send a small test amount first whenever you move funds between the two, and check that the network matches on both sides. BNB Chain is now in both wallets, but Phantom only added it on 1 October 2026, so update the app first.
